Vancouver needed to address their lack of toughness. when Steve Ott (Stars' center) was out of the picture, they sent C Cody Hodgson and D Alex Sulzer to Buffalo for big winger Zach Kassian and D Marc-Andre Gragnani.
Both teams got a fair shake. Vancouver gets toughness and a projected 2nd or good 3rd line power forward. They also pick up a good offensive D that can be hidden with Vancouver's strong defense.
Buffalo nabs a great top 6 centerman who was not going to live up to potential in a center-heavy Canucks squad. This seems to signify that there will be center turn over in Buffalo soon. Luke Adam and Hodgson project to be their 1, 2 punch respectively. Sulzer is a solid depth defender who is a big body. Sulzer has moved around lately. Predators to Florida to Canucks to Buffalo. He is serviceable, but is expendable.
