Flyers Sign Pair of High-Scoring Free Agents

Flyers Sign Pair of High-Scoring Free Agents

Jason Akeson likely will make up for the Flyers' lack of 1st round draft pick this year.

The Flyers have signed two OHL players, RW Jason Akeson and LW Tyler Brown, according to Flyers beat writer Frank Seravalli.

Akeson is a 20 year old playmaker who may actually pan out. He has 103 points this year (mostly assists) and is the first to top 100 points this year. I am excited to see what his future brings. At 5'11" 185 pounds he has decent size.

Akeson has benefitted from playing with Gabriel Landeskog, the captain of the Kitchener Rangers and what their coach has called the Swedish Mike Richards (an ex-Ranger captain). Landeskog is projected to go 3rd overall this NHL draft and his physical presence and leadership has helped create room for Akeson and has given him an increase in points.

But the fact that his points and play has increased with Landeskog does not mean he won't be productive as a Flyer and should not worry Flyers fans. The reason for this simply being, we have a player like that to bring out the best in Akeson...the real Mike Richards.

Brown, 21, has 54 points this year in his final year in the OHL. Brown is someone I see as a good pick up but I would not think he will make a difference to the Flyers for awhile.

Both of these wingers will report to Rookie Camp this offseason.

Seravalli also reports that Flyers still have interest in forward Stephane Da Coasta but are unable to sign him (if they are the lucky team to do so) until after his collegiate season at Merrimack University is over. The Frenchman is a former Sioux City Musketeer of the USHL.
