New All-Star Game Format?

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="400" caption="Brendan Shanahan is trying to give the All-Star Game a new look"][/caption]

According to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, the All-Star Game will feature a new process for selecting the all-stars. The fans will still be able to vote for the starting lineups. That won't change. However the all- star team captains will select the rest of the squad from a pool of sorts put together by league directors or some such nonsense. This idea was presented by former player and now league executive Brendan Shanahan.

Update: So apparently this idea is a lot cooler than I previously thought. The players selected to the All-Star Game will get there the same way as they always do. The fans will select the starters and the traditional hockey operations board will select the others (this part I am not a fan of). Then the team captains and alternates (I believe the coaches select these from the pool chosen from the hockey operations board and the starters) will draft who is on whose teams. Just like in gym class. "Okay, I got Getzlaf."

I can't wait to see who is picked last.
